Well, they’re flapping furiously back! Hummingbird Central tracks sightings and as of April 2nd, the bulk of sightings were as far north as Richmond but there were a couple up near Fairfax and as far north as Dover … so get your feeders ready because they’re probably hungry! 🐥🐥🐥

(Oh, on 4/8 it’s free cone day at Ben and Jerry’s but sadly we don’t have one all that close… but if you’re traveling you may get lucky!)

Put this in the rumor column until official word, but it appears the Cinemark at Snowden Square will be shut down on April 17th and sold to Phoenix Theaters and demolished. The sale was known, but this was posted to the Columbia subreddit, explaining the theater would be torn down and replaced with a warehouse. I’m skeptical but something to keep an eye on.

If you have a criminal record and are eligible to have it expunged, attend the Howard County Expungement Fair to find out more at no cost. It’s a partnership with Maryland Legal Aid and the African American Community Roundtable and will be held at the East Columbia 50+ Center by the East Columbia library. The money was an extension of Covid-era era funding (don’t let the named timing fool you, it was that time period but was always meant for education). Schools have already spent much of the money as it was already approved which means a difficult financial situation will now be made much worse. Read more.

Howard County is hosting a career fair in Howard Community College’s Burrill Galleria where you can meet with HR and outreach specialists, get input on your resume, get a professional headshot and free childcare on site.

Our entire family went to Disney for the first time earlier this year (it’s quite the adventure with four kids, plus two grandparents) and we enlisted the help of Bobby Perry, an Authorized Disney Travel Planner who lives in Fulton!

Candles by Candy, where you can make your own candles at their Savage Mill location, announced they were expanding to a second location in Ellicott City (8024 Main Street). The soft open will be on April 4th with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11:30am.

If you’re wondering when Park Ridge Creamery in Old Ellicott City will be opening for the season, wonder no more… it’s this Saturday. The announcement.

If you want authentic Neopolitan pizza (it’s certified by the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana), Pupatella opened up last month with much fanfare and the early reviews from diners is positive. We’ve passed by the location numerous times driving home from the Meadowbrook Athletic Complex and it’s fun seeing them transform the former Pizza Hut location.

The Clarksville Commons Farmers Market will be having its April Spring Preview Farmers Market on 4/5 starting at 9am until 1pm (one hour earlier). The market now has 22 confirmed vendors, a mix of old and new, and everything sold at the market is grown, raised, or made in the Chesapeake region. Details here.

Meadows Farms in Burtonsville is having a pop-up adoption event with the Chesapeake Animal Rescue Mission as part of their Alzheimer’s Day fundraiser. There will be a silent auction and you get a 10% discount on plants with a donation. Details.

Head to the Whipps Garden Cemetery in Ellicott City from 10am to 2pm and enjoy daffodils and other spring blooms. “Delight in the music of Musica Camerata, take a Soul Stroll, and hear from an archaeologist about the fascinating study of archaeology. Refreshments and kids' activities will be available.” Details.

The Hammond Elementary School Spring Carnival is this weekend from 3-6pm. There will be bounce houses, carnival games, a cake walk and more - basically everything you’d expect at an elementary school carnival. 😂 Entry is free, tickets for games and rides here.

Teens 11 to 17 are invited to the Howard County Library’s Central Branch for a fun event from 3pm to 5pm. There will be pizza, mini golf, Mario Kart, a scavenger hunt, 3d printing and more. You may even win a gift card. It’s free but you should register and complete a physical activity release form. Details here.

This Saturday (4/5) is Wellness Day at Manor Hill Farm from 12pm until 7pm. It’s a family friendly event with yoga classes by Breakaway Yoga Studios, music from DJ Levi, Sunset Raw Juice Bar Food Truck and a ton more. Details here.
