Speed Camera Fines Increase October 1st 🏎️

Speed camera fines will now be based on how far over the limit you’re driving, rather than a flat $40 per offense (I love that WMDT used a photo from England for their story):

  • 12 - 15 mph over: $40

  • 16 - 19 mph over: $70

  • 20 - 29 mph over: $120

  • 30 - 39 mph over: $230

  • 40+ mph over: $425

Two takeaways… you have 11 mph of leeway on speed cameras (which is quite generous) and the psychopaths going 40+ mph over deserve to pay every penny of that $425!

Congrats HoCo Youth Poet Laureate Penelope Tofigh ✒️

River Hill H.S. junior Penelope Tofigh was named Howard County’s Youth Poet Laureate. She earned 1st place in the 2025 Poetry Out Loud competition, then won at the state level, and then became a National Semi-Finalist.

Phoebe Enjoying a Poke Bowl

After finishing cancer treatment, Phoebe celebrated with a poke bowl at Blowfish Poke Hawaiian Grill that included what she couldn’t have during treatment - raw fish!

If you’re a long-time member of Howard County Eats, you may recall that “Chef” Phoebe had been cooking with local chefs and her first stop was making poke bowls with Jennie Kwon!
