AARP Labor Day Sale

Anyone can join AARP and with their Labor Day sale, it’s only $11 a year to get access to all of their savings. This includes $40 off a Walmart+ membership, extra ExxonMobil Rewards+, discounts at local restaurants like Denny’s, Outback, Bonefish Grill, and more. Get Two Free Trees 🌲

Howard County gives away free trees each year and this year you can get two. On the 25th, go to this link and scroll down to “Annual Tree Giveaway.” There will be a link starting at 10am to sign up. It will be active again at 2pm and then 7pm to manage demand.

Join Central MD Chorale 🎤

Love to sing? Come check out The Central Maryland Chorale for their rehearsals start back up on August 31st. No auditions, anyone can join, and their rehearsals are every Monday evening from 7:30pm-9:30pm in Laurel. Their Fall Concert will be December 19th.

Maryland Renaissance Festival Sells Out 🍗

Rennfest, which starts August 29th and goes until October 25th, has been selling out every year for a while now and if you want tickets, you have to sign up for the waitlist. If you like going and haven’t secured your tickets, get on the wait list!

Roggenart’s HQ to Columbia 🥐

Roggenart’s is taking over the former Hysteria Brewing Co. facility as its headquarters and central commissary. We’re big fans, both their Savage Mill and Columbia locations, and happy to hear of their recent expansion efforts.

  • Whimsical Workshop @ Manor Hill (Adults) - Build an enchanting fairy house for your garden, patio, or just about anywhere. All from a glass bottle, clay, wood, and a variety of natural materials. This class is open to all skill levels, bring your friends for a crafty girls night! $55pp includes 1 beverage.

  • Fused Glass Workshop @ Columbia Arts Center - Columbia Art Center is offering a fun fused glass workshop for adults ages 55 and older for just $20. Participants may drop in anytime between 1pm and 6pm to create beautiful summer-inspired fused glass planter inserts with the guidance of glass instructor Donna Darcy, who will lead each step of the process.

  • Dancin’ Under the People Tree - Fridays at the CA Lakefront are for Dancin’ Under the People Tree 💃🕺🏽. CA’s high-energy group fitness instructors will get you moving with an upbeat, all-levels dance session. We'll meet at 7pm under the People Tree (the 30-foot sculpture with human-shaped branches).

  • Movie Night: Freakier Friday - After Dancin’ Under the People Tree 💃🏽, it’s movie time 🎥. In Freakier Friday (PG), 22 years after Tess and Anna endured an identity crisis, Anna now has a daughter and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might strike twice.

  • Music at the Mansion @ The Mansion at Laurel - Enjoy outdoor the ambiance of "Music at the Mansion" - an evening of live entertainment on the grounds of The Mansion at Laurel, filled with music, food, drinks and more! Valid proof of ID is required to attend and for the purchase or consumption of alcohol. Attendees must be 21+ to attend.

  • Summer Sounds Series @ Dorsey’s Search Village Center - The Summer Sounds Series at Columbia Village Centers is bringing themed nights each month with exciting live music, plus family-friendly activities and more - live music by Summer Vibes.

  • Elkridge Volunteer Fire Dept. Food Truck Fridays - Every Friday until October 30th, a variety of food trucks will be there from 4:30-7:30pm. They list the food trucks attending each week and it’s usually a very big turnout.

  • Half Price Fridays @ National Aquarium - After 5pm, enjoy half priced tickets at the National Aquarium all year long.

  • Karaoke @ The Trolley Stop - Fridays at 9:30pm hosted by Kelly Secret.

  • Teen Kick Backs (11-17 yrs) @ Various Community Centers - Teens (11-17 years old): Are you looking for a fun way to spend your free time? Come and join us at our community centers for our free drop-in program for teens! There will be free pizza and snacks, sports, video games, and lots of fun. Click through to see when they’re being held and on which day, they’re every Friday and Saturday through August.

  • Laurel Advocacy & Referral Services Chesapeake Baysox Fundraiser - Come out to a baseball game to support Laurel Advocacy & Referral Services! LARS is a local non-profit that provides food, emergency services, case management and connections to other available supports for folks in need in the area. Watch as the Chesapeake Baysox take on the Richmond Flying Squirrels at Prince George's Stadium. A portion of each ticket sale supports the LARS food pantry and emergency services.

  • Y2K Night @ CA LakeFront - Ready to party like it’s 2000? Whether you lived it – or just wish you had – CA is bringing the ultimate Y2K throwback to the Columbia Association Lakefront. Dance your heart out to early-2000s hits spun live by a DJ, belt every word to music videos on a giant screen and relive themed throwback games that scream nostalgia. Don’t forget to rock your best 2000s-inspired fits.

  • Savage Summer Concert: Patuxent Jazz Band Swings @ Carroll Baldwin Hall - Late summer lingers into dusk as Patuxent Jazz Band joins Carroll Baldwin Hall and Gottaswing! to present an evening of swing. Bring a chair for the lawn or your dancing shoes to hit the Hall's historic floor - either way, your toes will be tapping!

  • Nite Bite Fishing - For $5, you can fish at night at Centennial Lake starting at 6pm until midnight.

  • Summer Movie Nights @ The Wine Bin - Pack your chair or blanket, grab your friends and head to the Bin. Come early for wine tastings in the shop beforehand and live music by local friends in the parking lot. This week’s movie is The Princess Bride.

  • Good Kid-izen: Storybook Adventures - From 10am to noon, Bring the whole family to Color Burst Park for a morning filled with interactive fun. Step inside the pages! Watch your favorite tales leap off the paper through interactive play and magical storytelling that turns every reader into the main character.

  • Howard Astronomical League Star Parties - The HAL hosts star parties every month up at Alpha Ridge Park from March through November, the next public one for non-members is on August 22nd.

  • Fulton Farmers Market - The market run by Milk Lady Markets is this Saturday, 10am-2pm, at Sho Nuf Turkey Farm.

  • Clarksville Commons Farmer’s Market - Today from 9am to 1pm with live music by Kristen Meyers.

  • Old Ellicott City Farmers Market - The Seasonal Farmers Market at Tiber Park is from 9am to 1pm with nearly a dozen vendors.

  • Downtown Silver Spring Freshfarm Farmers Market - Veterans Plaza from 9am-1pm, the year round market features local vendors offering everything from seasonal fruits and vegetables to farm-fresh eggs, artisanal breads, goat cheese, meats, honey, cut flowers, pastries, preserves, and more.

  • KidSpace Movie Night @ Columbia Gym - Kids 4-13 of CA members can enjoy a movie, free activities, pizza, and popcorn from 6pm to 9pm. Unfortunately, CA doesn’t seem to list the movie being shown!

  • Jenn’s Uncommon Critters Educational Event @ Manor Hill - Join us for a 1 hour long program featuring reptiles, invertebrates, and small mammals. The first 30 minutes is a show and tell portion featuring educational facts and meeting the Animal Ambassadors. The last 30 minutes will consist of touching, holding, and having pictures taken with some of our Ambassadors. This event is geared for anyone ages 5 and up. $10pp.

  • Chill Under the Disco Lights @ Soccer Plant - Late Bloomer Yoga hosts a gentle and beginner yoga from 5:25pm-6:30pm at Soccer Plant in Columbia. It’s free and all are welcome in the month of August.

  • Encore Comedy Show @ Black Flag Brewing - Join us for a night of laughs, brews, and good company at our monthly comedy showcase! The last Sunday of every month we turn the taproom into a comedy club.

  • Absolutely Dragulous Drag Brunch @ Black Flag Brewing - Join us every third Sunday of the month for an unforgettable Drag Brunch hosted by Absolutely Dragulous! Get ready for dazzling performances, outrageous humor, and all the fierce fun you can handle—right here at your favorite brewery.

  • Ulman Screw Cancer Brew Hope @ Manor Hill Brewing - This event isn’t until September 10th but I wanted to get it on your calendar if you’d like to enjoy an afternoon of music, games, raffles, food, craft brews, and community all in support of young adults impacted by cancer. It’s a great cause at a great place on a relaxing Thursday late afternoon and evening.

  • Yoga in the Park - Every Monday through August 31st, join Columbia Association instructors Mondays at 6pm throughout the summer for FREE yoga sessions at the Chrysalis!

  • Merriweather Summer Fit Series: Yoga Six 8/25 - Head to Color Burst Park from 6:30-7:30pm to sweat, stretch, and feel fantastic with our summer fit series lineup with next Tuesday being YogaSix: Find your flow and build your strength.

  • Hickory Ridge Pack to School Party - Celebrate the first day of school! Food trucks, live music and FUN! Everyone is welcome to attend. No RSVP necessary!
